Jim Wendel, President and Chairman of the Board

Jim is one of the three co-owners of the Hygrade Inn in Emporium, Pa. which is scheduled to open in November 2018.  Jim grew up in Emporium and left after high school.  After living in major cities for 25 years he returned to Emporium and purchased a home with his partner David Karkoska in 2010. Both Jim and Dave recognize this community as home.  Jim worked for the medical publisher, The Current Medicine Group, in both Philadelphia and the United Kingdom serving as Subscriptions and Customer Relations Manager. Subsequent to that, Jim worked for SBC Ameritech, a telecommunications company, in Chicago Illinois as a Project and Product Manager.  Jim spent the remainder of his career as the Incentives Operations Manager for Subaru of America in New Jersey where he is currently employed.  He is focused on improving economic opportunities in Cameron County as he prepares for retirement, and his passion lead him to join with the other HMI Board Members in the mission of HMI.  He is excited about his new role as President and Chairman of the Board for Hometown Mentors, Inc.

Teresa L. Ream

Teresa Ream, Board Secretary (in her words)

I was born, many, many years ago in Oak Hill, WVa.  I moved from Paintsville, Ky. to Emporium, Pa in 1971. and worked very hard to eliminate my southern accent.  However, even after all these years I still have a few stubborn clingers…Pin (Pen), Limon (Lemon), etc.
I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in Science.  I earned a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh, and most recently acquired a K-12 Principal’s Certification from Edinboro University.
I am currently employed, by the Cameron County School District, as the 5th and 6th Grade Science Teacher, and have held that position for the past 19 years. After these many years in the classroom, I am most proud of the fact that I have only been called the “B” word twice!
My husband, Jeff, and I have been married for almost 27 years (August), and have two children. Joe is the oldest son, and is in the United States Coast Guard, stationed in Corpus Christi Texas.  Mitch is the baby. He will graduate from The Villanova School of Law this May. He has been hired by a law firm in Buffalo, NY. Phewww!!
My first experience with HMI occurred during the planning of a tribute concert for Sue Beveridge.  Miss Beveridge was my music teacher throughout high school. I admired her very much, and was happy to do whatever I could to help out.
I am looking forward to continuing being a part of this worthwhile organization, as a Board Member.  Emporium was a great, small town to grow up in. I’ve made many life-long friends here, raised my children here, work here, and I am happy to be part of an organization that sees Emporium as a great place too!
